Chris is . . .
. . . Responsive

Our community wants local government to do more and spend less. Those are my goals too, and here is one major success.

Two years ago I reduced staff by two full-time employees. It took a few years to accomplish as it began in 1996 when I built my office's first website. Today that website provides online services and has become our virtual employees. This is an ongoing savings of nearly $100,000 each year.

You may have used our virtual employees when you printed a copy of your current tax bill from our website. Perhaps you signed up to receive tax auction notifications. You might have used the historical tax payments information while preparing your income taxes.

These virtual employees are awake and ready to assist you at your convenience.
. . . Practical

Does technology ever reach a point when it ceases being helpful?

Yes. One major complaint about technology is associated with telephones, specifically the telephone answering trees. Another complaint is associated with the out-sourcing of customer service.

From 8 to 5 we answer our telephones in person with real Nevada County employees. No telephone-trees, and no out-sourcing! We are well trained and prepared to assist you.

I answer the telephones, too. Why? I want to know what our property owners need. While talking with them I ask how we can improve services. It saves time, gives me immediate knowledge and eliminates expensive surveys and consultants.

If your telephone call is ever answered as, "Tax Collector, this is Chris." you'll be speaking with me.
. . . Trustworthy

Our treasury reached an all-time high in December at $170 Million dollars. That is 11% greater than last year.

The property tax roll, and four other tax rolls, totalled $160 Million; 10% greater than last year, also. We mail about 60,000 property tax bills, and process the two-installment payments.

As the County Treasurer my offices receive all of the county's money, including tax deposits. We act as the bank for all outside districts and agencies within the boundary of Nevada County with the exception of the three cities, NID and the Truckee Fire Department.

I have the personal and professional responsibility for the safety of the public's money.

Re-elect
Chris Dabis
June 6, 2006
I eagerly seek re-election to continue serving.

Through my thirty-four years working for the County of Nevada, twenty-three of them as your elected Treasurer & Tax Collector, I have gathered a vast amount of knowledge; historical knowledge from which I draw a solid base to implement efficient and effective cost-saving changes.

With the constant evolution of technology, both hardware and software, choosing the best of these technologies is challenging. We not only want the best, but we want bargain basement prices. I like that challenge!

It is pure joy to meld my legal and historical knowledge to attain practical solutions. We constantly review our procedures looking for more effeciencies, adding clarity, and increasing our performance expectations. It is a world of non-ending stages of research and development.

Please consider re-electing me. I thoroughly enjoy being a public servant as that is how I am best able to help our community.
